Heroes - Woman with childA hero isn’t always someone who performs a life-saving act. The third listing in the dictionary defines a hero as "a person admired for his achievements and noble qualities."

Kindness is a noble quality as is patience and generosity. Any time we take responsibility or put the needs of others ahead of ourselves we are taking on the quality of hero.

We see acts of responsibility and social heroism all the time, from the simple acts of kindness like shoveling snow for an elderly neighbor or delivering meals to those who are shut in to the more deliberate actions like donating blood during a drive or even an organ if it can help someone who is gravely ill.

We’re putting the spotlight on the people in our communities who make an extra effort to do for others by giving of themselves or by donating their time, talents and money or by taking the responsibility to see a change made for the better in their communities.

You can nominate a hero for AmericanTowns by writing to us and letting us know what your hero is doing to make a difference. Send an email to heroes@americantowns.com and we'll post your story across the network.
