Sonya passed away peacefully on July 19, 2011 with her family at her side. She was born February 29th, 1932 in Oakland, California, the daughter of Francisco Bolima and Lenora Peters Bolima. Through her mother's Tlingit (Alaskan Native) lineage Sonya was of the Deisheetaan (Raven- Beaver clan of Angoon, Alaska) and her clan house was the Needlefish House. Sonya spent her childhood working with her sister and five brothers on the family farm. At the young age of 16, she became the matriarch of her family raising her younger brothers and sisters.She continued to support her siblings and many nieces and nephews as each one proceeded on their own journey through life. Sonya had strength, born of faith, which she willingly used to help others. Sonya married Victor S. Fujioka on May 15, 1955 and together they raised four sons. As her sons grew older, Sonya pursued a lifelong dream of going to college. She graduated with honors from Seattle University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She attained a position with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians in which she helped tribal members find job training and employment. Later she worked with Ina Maka, a family services program offered through the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation where her focus was finding safe homes for Native youth. This is my yearly trip my dad and I make trying to get away for a little time and spend some family time together I guess you could say. Up here this week we're doing some fishing; pulled in a 110 pound halibut today, all kinds of salmon, rockfish, my dad pulled in a lingcod which actually isn't in season, a real good size lingcod he had to throw back. We're having a great time. I'm going to be releasing some video tips from up here as well so stay tuned and we'll be dripping these out as the week goes on.
