Akiuk is built on soft tundra, for the most part, so instead of sidewalks, we have "boardwalks." The main part of town has the school, church, washeteria, and a few homes clustered together. Stretched along the Johnson River is a thin line of single homes. Front Street, Main Street, River Road, whatever you want to call it ... it's a busy place on a cool, calm summer's evening. Tundra Sunrise - Alaska Easter 2008

Celebrating Easter as the sun rises over Nunapitchuk from neighboring Kasigluk (Akiuk). I'm playing "See What a Morning" (Resurrection Song) in the background. It's a long way to Jerusalem (or anyplace, for that matter) from the snow-covered Alaska tundra ... and a long time until spring green is seen.
