Ketchikan Area Arts Council
About Us :
The Arts Council (KAAHC) was founded in 1953 and incorporated in 1970. It is a thriving, full-service local arts agency with the central purpose of fostering community arts. The Arts Council offers technical support to regional artists and arts organizations while fostering and providing a variety of arts-related programs and events for the residents of Southern S.E. Alaska. The City of Ketchikan has recognized the Arts Council as the official agency responsible for the advancement of the arts in Ketchikan. In 1996, the Arts Council received the Governor’s Award for the Arts in recognition of its “outstanding contributions which have increased the artistic excellence of Alaska.
Mission:
To encourage creative expression by providing residents of the greater Ketchikan area an opportunity and avenue for creative endeavors;
To foster education, understanding, and appreciation of the arts and humanities by promoting the development of cultural opportunities, performances, instruction and exhibits; and
To build community support for the arts & humanities.
Vision :
Art elevates the human spirit, and must be accessible to everyone. The KAAHC provides the gateway to the visual, performing, and literary arts in southern Southeast Alaska. Art opens the door and invites appreciation and participation by culturally diverse peoples of all ages, interests, and backgrounds. Art provides broad, far-reaching benefits and creates community involvement.
