Senior Citizens Art Show - Art show featuring senior citizen artist at the Senior Center located 302 Erskine Ave. Art Show throughout the month of May. Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5pm.  

6 p.m. Tennis Tournament - Held at Baranof Park. Sponsored by Edward Jones Investments. There will be doubles play only this year. If you don’t have a partner we’ll get one for you.  Matches will depend on the weather and will run through Memorial Day on evenings and weekends. Register at Edward Jones, 2705 Mill Bay Road, Suite 201. Entry is free. Prizes awarded for first, second and third places.

10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Library Book Sale - Book sale featuring thousands of books, videos, DVDs, and CDs at bargain prices. Come early for best selection. All sales benefit the public library. Sale takes place in front of the library - inside the library if it rains. Come Thursday May 26, Friday, May 27, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, May, 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

6 p.m. Table Tennis Tournament will be held at the Teen Center. Divisions for middle school, high school and adults. Double elimination. This event is for everyone. Medals will be awarded to four champions and four runner-ups.

6 p.m. Predicted Mile Race at Joe Floyd Track in Baranof Park. Sign up at 5:30 p.m. to participate. This is an event in which participants estimate the time it will take them to run one mile. The winner is the person who comes closest to his or her prediction. Wearing watches is not permitted. A trophy will be awarded the winner. There is no charge for this event.

6 p.m-10p.m: In Da Mixx On Da Mall with DJ Marc "Island Style" Music - Join us for music Games, Dance Contest and Guest Performances. Hosted by DJ Marc.

7:15 p.m. Predicted Mile Swim at the Kodiak Island Borough swimming pool. Sign up on the pool deck at 7 p.m. to participate. This is an event in which participants estimate the time it will take them to swim one mile (35 laps, down and back). The winner is the person who comes closest to his or her prediction. Wearing watches is not permitted. A trophy will be awarded the winner. There is no charge for this event.

6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.- Drop off time for all local artists displaying their works at the 11th Annual Crab Festival Art Show sponsored by Dancing Salmon Artists.  Drop off location is the Kodiak Inn, Harbor Room. Entry forms available at the Public Library, Next Page Bookstore, Emerald Isle Framing and Northern Exposure Gallery. 3p.m. - 5p.m. Uswitusqaq’s Dream Book Release at the Alutiiq Museum at 215 Mission Rd, Suite 101. To celebrate the publication of Aswitusqaq's Dream, the Alutiiq Museum will host a live reading of the story in the museum's children's corner. Families are invited to hear the tale while relaxing in the museum's Wamwik. This setting will help to transport listeners into the Alutiiq world.

6 p.m. Chess Tournament: will be held at the Teen Center. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals will be awarded in three divisions: Open, High/Middle School and Elementary. Matches will be limited to one hour ten minutes. After that time, a draw will be declared. Competition will be in round-robin format. Chris Pagsolingan is the tournament director. No charge for this event.

6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. - Opening reception of the 11th Annual Crab Festival Art Show located at the Harbor Room Best Western Kodiak Inn. Sponsored by Dancing Salmon Artists, Best Western Kodiak Inn, Harbor Room. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar.  Art by local artists will be on sale. Also open Saturday, May 28th, 12-6 p.m. and Sunday, May 29, 12-4 p.m.

8:45 a.m. - Grand Parade Line up - Same Mill Bay Route as Last Year- Parade participants line up on Powell Ave by Main Elementary School.  Judging begins at 9  a.m. Plaques awarded: Grand Prize/Mayors Award, 1st place Marching Group, 1st place Theme Award.

9:15 am - Shrimp Parade - Free Goody Bags and balloons for participants- Same Mill Bay Route as Last Year. ACS will give away goody bags to and Associated Island Brokers Inc. will give away free balloons to Shrimpers lined up in the Mongolian Barbecue parking lot.

10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Library Sidewalk Book Sale - Book sale featuring thousands of books, videos, DVDs, and CDs at bargain prices. Come early for best selection. All sales benefit the public library. 10 a.m. - Crab Festival Grand Parade - The parade runs along Mill Bay Rd. between Powell and Bartel Avenues.   Parking is limited so be sure to come early.

10:15 a.m.- Crab Festival Shrimp Parade. - Same Mill Bay Route as Last Year- Lineup at 9:15 a.m. at the parking lot in front of Mongolian Barbeque.  All entrants must have adult supervision before the parade and while walking the parade route. Everyone wins in this parade!

Noon.- U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue Demonstration and Fly Over near the Ship Channel south of float dock.  Aircraft fly over, Search and Rescue demonstration by H-60 and H-65 helicopters and a C-130 aircraft.  Includes rescue swimmer drop and boat hoisting to a Coast Guard 41' boat, as well as simulated emergency distress situations.  Whether one mile or a thousand miles away, Air Station Kodiak aircrews and aircraft come to the aid of mariners in distress.

Noon-6 p.m: 11th Annual Crab Festival Art Show Sponsored by Dancing Salmon Artists. Best Western Kodiak Inn, Harbor Room. Art by local artists will be on sale.

1 p.m: Norm Holm Memorial Survival Suit Race.  Teams that want to participate must sign up at the boat ramp by Harbormaster's office before 1 p.m. on the day of the event.  Serious fun in this popular event.  Entry fee is $20 per team. Those who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd will receive a plaque and a hooded sweatshirt. First place winners get to hold the traveling trophy for the next year. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

2 p.m.- Kids Sawdust Pile on the midway.  Fun for children!  Watch the sawdust fly as kids search for $1000 in loose change.

3:30 p.m. Kids Foot Races. Races: held in Sargent Park. Youth from two to about twelve years are divided into age groups. Ribbons are awarded to winners and participants. There is no charge for this event.

7:30 p.m.- Lion's Arm Wrestling Championships held at Tony's Bar on the mall.  Weight classes for men and women. Arm wrestling professional table.  Participants must sign up and weigh in by 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is $10 with proceeds going to Lions Charity. Must be 21 to enter. Sponsored by the Lions Club. This is the highest adrenaline activity at Crab Festival!

Sunday,May 29,2011:
9 a.m. Pasagshak-to-Kodiak Bike: This 41-mile event begins at the mouth of Pasagshak River and ends on Marine Way in front of the Harbormaster’s building. Entry fee is $25. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Awards for first, second and third and t-shirts presented at the Teen Center at 4 p.m. Register at 58 Degrees North by 6 p.m. Saturday, May 29.

9 a.m. Crab Festival Marathon: This standard 26.2-mile marathon begins between Silver Beach and Kalsin Bay and ends on Marine Way in front of the Harbormaster’s building. Course record for men is held by Laddie Shaw, 2:48:20, 1986. Women’s course record is held by Sally Skimin, 3:24:27, 2002. Entry fee is $15. Trophies for men’s and women’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Awards and t-shirts presented at the Teen Center at 4 p.m.

12:30 p.m. Pillar Mountain Race: The traditional Pillar Mountain course starts on Marine Way in front of the Harbormaster building, goes up Mill Bay Road, down Birch, up Pillar Mountain Road, follows the trail west along the top, goes down a rugged trail into Swampy Acres, and back on Rezanof to the finish at the starting line. Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in five different men’s and women’s age groups. Awards and t-shirts presented at the Teen Center at 4 p.m.

12:30- 2:30 pm:"Wild About Kodiak Seafood Cook-Off 2011” Sponsored by FCCLA and Best Western Kodiak Inn.  Enter your favorite Kodiak seafood recipe to participate. This is a two-part competition.  Recipes submitted will be entered in a first-round preliminary judging and will be judged on the following: Use of Kodiak seafood product(s), nutritional value and originality.  Your creation must be previously unpublished.  Three different categories will be judged:  Appetizers, Soups or Salad, and Main Entree.  The public is invited to the final judging on Monday, May 30th at 12:30  p.m. at the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center (downstairs).
Ididarock: Sign-up and Bike 41 miles with the bike riders from Pasagshak to town, then Run the 9-mile Pillar Mountain Classic (late start is okay but there may be no one at the top with water), and then SWIM one mile between 4 and 6 p.m. at the community pool (fins okay). Need to pay lap swim fee of $2 when you get there.
Relays welcome, just organize exchanges on your own. They can take any form. Two people could continually trade off and on during the bike, run and swim. Three people could each choose a leg. Six people could each do half of each leg, etc. T-shirts will be available for $14.99 at Bases Loaded. Pick out a shirt from his store, and he will iron-on the logo.

1 p.m.- Kodiak Balalaika Players at the Baranov Museum, 101 Marine Way.
Sponsored by the Kodiak Historical Society and the Kodiak Russian Balalaika Players.
A lively performance of Authentic Russian folk music with guitars, violins, violas, flutes, accordions and of course, balalaikas.  Enjoy refreshments and free admission to the museum.


1:30 p.m.-Kodiak Inn Crab Festival Bed Races - Sponsored by the Best Western Kodiak Inn.  Deadline for entries will be Tuesday, May 24th.  Entries may be dropped off at the front desk of the Best Western Kodiak Inn.  Bed inspection site will be at 12 noon, one hour prior to the race, in the Ferry Terminal Parking Lot.  A Captain's Meeting will follow the inspection.  This year’s course runs on Marine Way from the Elks Lodge to the Ferry Terminal. Prizes will be awarded for Best Bed - Fastest Bed -and Best Team Costume.  Get your entry in early!  And VAROOM down the road with the winning bed!!!  For more information call Gemma or Susan at 486-5712.

3  p.m.-Fishermen's Memorial Service at the Fishermen's Memorial Site by the Harbormaster's building in downtown Kodiak. This annual memorial service is to honor fishermen lost in Alaskan waters and lost to the Kodiak community. Sponsored by Kodiak Fishermen's Wives & Associates.

Monday,May 30,2011:
10 a.m. - 5 p.m.-Retro Monday on the Spit! New this year is Retro Monday, the Kodiak community fun day with an old time fair theme.  It will be a fun-filled day of games, activites, music, and more!

9  a.m.- 12 p.m.- Kodiak's 4H 24th Annual Sourdough Pancake Breakfast.  Held at the Elks Lodge.  Sourdough pancakes made from an original starter that is over 100 years old. 4-H members will prepare and serve all you can eat pancakes.  Also served will be ham, coffee, and juice. $5 for Senior Citizens and youth 4-12 years old, $8 for adults, free for age 3 and under. Sponsored by the 4-H Club.  Call Katrina Neff for more information at 486-6248.

1 p.m. - 2 p.m: Blessing of the Fleet at Pier 1. The traditional blessing of the fleet is open to all vessels.  A blessing service is sung followed by an Orthodox priest sprinkling each passing vessel with Holy Water.  This year, the service will be sung from the dock of Pier 1 (the ferry dock). Skippers are asked to have their vessels waiting in Shahafka Cove by 1 p.m.  Kayakers gather in front of the Channel Side Chowder House dock by 1 p.m.

1 p.m: Rubber Duck Race - Held at the Russian River.  The 18th Annual Rotary Fundraiser to benefit scholarship funds.  Wagers purchase a numbered rubber duck that is released into the Russian River.  The swiftest, most cunning ducky to cross the finish line earns its owner a handsome share of the proceeds.1st prize- $ 3,000 and 12 other money prizes.  Sponsored by the Kodiak Noon Rotary.

4 - 8 p.m.- Multi-Cultural Celebration in the Kodiak High School Commons. This event is characterized by displays of various cultures for viewing; foods of various cultures for tasting; plus entertainment and aboriginal dress of various cultures for viewing. Sponsored by Kodiak Multi Cultural Forum.
