Mission Statement:
Generate awareness of the marine environment with a focus on Alaska.  Our core purpose is to present a broad range of current scientific research to educate people on marine wildlife.

About us:

Sitka WhaleFest is a celebration of our diverse and abundant marine mammals population. From mid-September until mid-January, the pristine waters of Sitka Sound are home to many humpback whales. Biologists believe the whales are building up food reserves prior to their migration to tropical waters

Learn about the most recent studies on humpback whales and other Alaskan marine wildlife by attending slide shows, workshops and discussions. Open forum question and answer sessions follow all presentations.

Sitka's weather in November is moderate, with temperatures in the 40s and lower 50s. It may be raining, but that won't dampen the fun and spirits of everyone joining the celebration. You can enjoy planned whale and marine mammal viewing trips and other festive events.

The beautiful seaside community of Sitka offers a remarkable opportunity to entertain and challenge you with activities and new information on marine mammals. Come experience the pleasures of living in an area where your neighbors are magnificent humpback whales, harbor seals, Steller sea lions and a flourishing sea otter population.
