HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS
category:Clubs and Organizations posted:July 25th, 2008
Two international high-school students who will be attending Green Mountain High School this fall are still in need of host families. Ann Newsmith, coordinator of PAX, the Program of Academic Exchange, says, ”We are eager to find families who could make a short-term commitment of opening their home to an exchange student for a few weeks while he or she is getting acquainted with Vermont and acclimating to a new culture.” This experience offers families a great opportunity to learn first-hand about another culture and to share their life with a student who is eager to discover life in America.
Erika is a 17-year old girl from Mexico who loves to draw and likes a wide range of sports, including tennis, volleyball and skiing. Benedikt from Germany is also 17-years old. He is an excellent student who plays the drums in several bands and enjoys soccer and track.
The main requirement for host families is to be warm, welcoming and willing to share their daily life with the student. Young couples, single parents, and retirees are encouraged to apply. Students do not need their own room, just a bed in a room with a host sibling and a place to study. They speak English well and have spending money for personal expenses, as well as medical insurance.
