Birmingham ranks 5th for retail job growth in 2011

Birmingham added 2,000 retail jobs in 2011 and was one of the top major markets for retail job growth in the U.S. According to a review of Bureau of Labor Statistics data by On Numbers, retail employment in the area increased 3.53 percent during the year. That was the fifth highest rate in the nation. The only markets to rank ahead of Birmingham were Providence, R.I., (4.47 percent), Salt Lake City (3.9 percent),
