Deannexation request denied for Spanish Fort La-Z-Boy

A request by David Marks, owner of the La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery in the Spanish Fort Town Center, to break away from the city was denied by the Spanish Fort City Council. According to the Press-Register, a lawyer for Marks initially said his client was seeking deannexation because the high tax rates were "devastating" to Marks. But when later questioned by the council, Marks said his primary reason for the request stemmed from an ongoing debate over access to paperwork about the town center.
