These vignettes will come over time. Some stories will be funny and others will make you realize just how much times have changed...not necessarily for the better. My dad was the youngest of ten children in his family and is the only living member of his family today. He was born on October 14, 1926. His father, John William Dean, was a southern Baptist preacher and farmer that raised a large family through the turn of a century, the great depression and world wars. My grandfather was a man of great integrity and fortitude. For those of you who know my dad, you certainly know of his battles with cancer. Over 47 years, cancer has taken a lot from my father...a substantial part of his neck and shoulder muscles, and the vast majority of his tongue which has literally been rebuilt from other tissue on his body. After more than six major cancer surgeries and countless radiation treatments, my dad is truly a patchwork miracle. If you ask me, I'll just tell you he's a perfect part of God's tapestry. Today, he still works full-time and his only medications are a really large handful of vitamins. I hope you enjoy this and other stories to come. Kent Dean
