Demopolis is located in west central Alabama at the confluence of the Black Warrior River and the Tombigbee River. It was settled in 1817 by exiles from Napoleon's court. Originally an area devoted to agriculture, Demopolis now has many industries such as Borden Chemical Co., Cemex Cement, Gulf States Paper Corp., New Era Cap Company, and Foster Farms. There are also a number of other industries and large employers.
