The Cultural Arts Center is a non-profit organization that was established in May 2002. The Center has been renovated to accommodate various arts and service organizations in the Wiregrass, providing a venue for talented artists to gather and perform. These organizations provide instruction in different areas of the arts, to enrich the citizens of Dothan and the surrounding communities.
The Center is home to the Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, the Southeast Alabama Dance Company, the Tri-State Community Orchestra, Dothan Wiregrass Art League, Dothan-Houston County Substance Abuse Partnership, Music South, the National Railroad Historical Society and the Dothan Service League.
Adult dance and movement classes like Ballroom, Salsa, Tap, Hip Hop, Tai Chi and Yoga/Pilates are taught weekly in The Center Dance Studio. In addition, The Center recently received a grant to provide Hip Hop and Piano classes to underserved children in the area, with additional classes to be added.
A state-of-the-art wide screen movie projector was installed to enable The Center to show films that did not come to the area or did not stay in theatres long, art films, documentaries, classic films, family films, and foreign films.
Since its establishment, The Center has exposed more than 600 children to many different arts programs that are not available in the school systems due to a lack of funding. In the future, we hope to see The Center evolve into a fine arts school and play an integral role in the school system.
The Center is also available to rent for special events and receptions. The auditorium and banquet hall provides spacious areas for any special occasion.
Adult dance and movement classes like Ballroom, Salsa, Tap, Hip Hop, Tai Chi and Yoga/Pilates are taught weekly in The Center Dance Studio.
