Internet Explorer users: click pause before closing Hackleburg, AL: Before & After the Tornadorunning time:13:11 added by:McRaeTube source: YouTubeI made this video to show everyone a little of what Hackleburg looked like before 4/27/11 and give them some idea of how bad the damage was shortly after. The video was recorded 11 days after the tornados destroyed 75% of Hackleburg and many other areas of Alabama. After spending a lot of time in the town over the past few years I wanted to preserve a little of the Hackleburg I remember in this video. Keep in mind this is only a very small part of the damage and does not include the school.

The town of Hackleburg, Alabama was hit by the only EF-5 Tornado in the state. The town of around 1500 people was almost completely destroyed as churches, schools, homes, and almost all the stores were destroyed. It will take years to completely rebuild not only the buildings, but the lives. On November 6, 2011, my 13 year old son, Spencer, and I travelled to Hackleburg to present a check from Unionville Recreation Association (URA) for $3200 to support the little league there, the Hackleburg Dixie Youth. The money was raised by the URA tournament baseball and softball teams to assist with tornado relief.

This reinforced solid 3500 PSI concrete storm shelter features a proven design that most recently was tested by the Smithville, MS, EF-5 1/2 mile wedge tornado in which 10 people were saved on April 27, 2011. Also on that day another shelter of this design was tested in the EF-5 Hackleburg, Alabama tornado. We were told that several other shelters of this design were in the paths of the Super Outbreak 2011 tornadoes in the South. This shelter features 8"-10" of concrete in the floor and walls and 10"-12" of concrete in the ceiling. The monolithic engineering, solid pour and solid concrete construction were all factors that sold us on this shelter. May 24, 2011 in North Texas was nearly a life changing experience here in North Texas. Don't wait to be a victim in the next Joplin, Tuscaloosa, Phil Campbell or other community in the strike zone of a killer tornado. Call Danny Roach of Security Storm Shelters today at PH-903-982-7427 and 903-495-3524 for more information on this shelter. |
