Jay's Garden Variety

We don't use chemical pesticides or fungicides on your vegetables. The year starts with fresh picked greens, lettuce mix, radishes and green onions. We'll add items like watermelons, cantelopes, tomatoes, eggplants, okra and peppers as they come in and repeat spring items in the fall along with squashes and pumpkins through October and longer if the weather holds out. We also include fresh herbs each week or dried when they are available. Pick-up at the farm allows customizing your share.

Winter is here at Jay's Garden Variety. We are offering a few CSA shares for 2011. The 20' x 78' hoop house is up and a few things are planted. So far there's brussel sprouts and cabbage-the plan is to add lettuce, spinach, broccoli and more. We'll be using 1/3 of it for plant starts. We still have the smaller cold frame with plants we're keeping warm for the winter. It feels like spring in there.

The blackberries are pruned and clipped. We should have plenty for U-pick this summer. The Muskadine vineyard is doing well; we had a good harvest in 2010 and expect even more for 2011. We're working to expand blueberry varieties this year and expect a bigger harvest.

The new water catchment system worked great this year-1" of rain brought in over 1000 gallons of water.
