About as:

McAdory High School has always been a school in transition. From austere beginnings in 1828 as a one room school building, to ongoing construction to keep up with the burgeoning population, McAdory has educated generations of students.

McAdory has a rich history dating back to 1828 when the school was housed at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. In 1868 a new school building was erected that combined students from Bucksville School and Salem School at Jonesboro. The new school was named Pleasant Hill Academy. In 1916 land was purchased from the McAdory family to build a school on the present site. In 1920, the new school was completed and was named for the McAdory family. This school eventually burned down, and the campus had to be rebuilt. After another fire in the late 1970's destroyed part of the historic campus, a new section was added to the school, housing a gymnasium, an office suite, a bandroom, and several classrooms. McAdory is currently undergoing the completion of $5 million worth of renovations. Students and teachers have been temporarily relocated in trailers on campus since Fall 2004.

Until 1996, McAdory was home to Kindergarten through grade 12. McAdory has the dubious distinction of being one of the few remaining campuses in Jefferson County to house both middle and high school students.
