Aerials of WAAY-TV Meteorologist Gary Dobb's Home after EF5 Tornado Levels His Home 01:30
Internet Explorer users: click pause before closing Aerials of WAAY-TV Meteorologist Gary Dobb's Home after EF5 Tornado Levels His Homerunning time:01:30 added by:rexoutdoors source: YouTubeThis is an aerial view of WAAY-TV (Huntsville, Alabama TV Station) meteorologist Gary Dobb's home. It was taken two days after the massive EF-5 tornado tore through his home and leveled it, along with a famous restaurant-Oh'Bryans located in Mount Hope, Alabama. Gary was on the air live describing the tornado as it was bearing down on his home. You can listen to a replay of that TV broadcast here: www.clipsyndicate.com Gary was describing the tornado coming over the mountain while restaurant employees (the restaurant Oh'Bryans is next door to his house) huddled in his storm shelter behind the home. As Gary calmly explains to viewers he can seek shelter a few feet away, he proceeds on telling details of the storm. The reality is he has to walk from the front porch through the house, out the back door, and down the back yard to the storm shelter underground. He did not make it to the shelter when the tornado hit. In fact, he only made it to the living room and the house exploded. He found himself in the back yard after the tornado hit the home and threw him out. He also had to assist getting those people in his storm shelter out because a wall from his home had blocked the entrance to the storm shelter. This was the story relayed to me by several local people that lived near him. Notice the restaurant beside the home is totally wiped clean from the tornado. If employees had taken shelter in the restaurant, they might not have survived. Video shot by Rex Free on May 30, 2011 ...
Mount Hope Alabama Tornado Damage 2011 05:26
Internet Explorer users: click pause before closing Mount Hope Alabama Tornado Damage 2011running time:05:26 added by:jshusterman source: YouTubeAfter raising as many donations as we could possibly carry we loaded up and transported everything to Mount Hope, Alabama on May 11, 2011. Even though we arrived 2 weeks after the April 27th tornadoes the damage caused by the F5 tornado that hit Mount Hope (and many other N. Alabama communities) was apparent. Cleanup has begun, but as you can see it will take a long time for this farming town to recover. Notice the many dirt and gravel driveways were homes used to sit. Many homes were completely destroyed. Most others in the path of the tornado suffered extensive damage. I'm sorry for the horrible quality. This is a segment of videos shot from my cell phone as we toured the ravaged area.

We immediately started calling our family members. We are both from small towns in Alabama. Everyone in our family was accounted for except my sister, who is from Phil Campbell. I watched several news channels and made several phone calls trying to locate her. I couldn't find her. I was so upset because all the news coverage was over Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Finally, a friend sent me one link to ONE video of Phil Campbell. The video showed nothing but destruction. My husband came home for lunch and saw me crying. I told him how helpless I felt and showed him the video. He told me to pack up. We are going to look for her. That is the Alabama way. We take care of each other. So we loaded up, our car full of supplies, with our five month old son, and went in search to find her. We were some of the lucky few. We found her safe and well. Even though we found her we continued to volunteer in Phil Campbell. There was so much confusion because most of Alabama had lost power. We have grew so dependant on technology that it seemed as if no one knew how to communicate and organize. But I witnessed an overwhelming support within the community. It seemed as if time stopped and everyone lent a helping hand. There was no differences whether it be age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. Everyone was helping even those with mild injuries. So I am submitting this for Phil Campbell, Alabama. A ...
