category:Sports and Recreation posted:September 16th, 2006On August 14, 1967, Legislative Act 225 created the State of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame (ASHOF). The ASHOF is a magnificent state treasure, dedicated to the celebration and preservation of Alabama’s exceptional sports heritage.
Over the last thirty-five years, the ASHOF has become the benchmark for other Sports Museums across the country, with over 5,000 sports artifacts elegantly displayed in the 33,000 square foot building. Out of ESPN’s list of the top 100 athletes of the century, five out of the top fifteen greatest ever are in the ASHOF: Jesse Owens, Hank Aaron, Joe Louis, Willie Mays, and Carl Lewis.
The Hall of Fame is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admissions are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens (60 and over), $3 for any students, families $14. Groups of 10 or more get $1 off each admission.
