n 1849 a man known as A.N. Worthy, saw a spiritual need in the city of Troy, Alabama. Upon his arrival he saw people without spiritual guidance. God gave him a few faithful people with a vision.

Under the leadership of God through Dr. Worthy and sixteen members, First Baptist Church of Troy was established in 1850. The church owned no land on which to build their place of worship...God provided through sacrifice of His faithful people. There were no finances with which to build a house of worship...God provided through the sacrifice of His faithful people.

Had it not been for those few faithful people allowing God to work through them there would be no First Baptist Church, Troy today to continue God's witness that was begun so long ago.

In 1874 FBC moved into a new house of worship. As the city grew, more Christians were added to the church. Spiritual needs also grew, so once again the church with vision for the future faced the challenge to build.

In 1889 a new brick house of worship was dedicated. At the time, it was considered the finest piece of architecture in existence in the South. that structure is still our house of worship today. In 1998 First Baptist Church, Troy dedicated a newly renovated and expanded house of worship to the Glory of God.

As did our ancestors of the past, we have faced the challenge with faith and sacrifice to make provision for continued growth. We continue to add to God's kingdom through our faithfulness of time, talent, tithes, and offerings.
