Alabama likely facing 25 percent budget cut

MONTGOMERY | Lawmakers received bad news as they arrived Tuesday for the start of the 2012 legislative session: State agencies likely face cuts in this year’s budget. Even worse, the cuts for next year could be much bigger, possibly more than 25 percent for many programs, and would tear holes in the state’s safety net of social services.
