The Alma Public Library was established in July of 1965 by then Mayor Roy Cromer by appointing five area ladies to the Alma Library Board. In 1979, the new City Complex was built and opened with the expanded Library facility with Mrs. Helen Stacy serving as the librarian. The library was housed in about 900 sq ft. During this time, the Friends of the Alma Public Library were established in 1996 and began hosting fundraisers to get a larger building. To date, the Alma Public Library has approximately 29,390 items and the CCLS as a whole has 100,809 items.
