About as:
I opened Flat Rock Studio Gallery in the Fall of 2002 and the Clay Supplies in the following Spring. I have a thing for gadgets and the newest tools, so I decided it would be something I would like to bring to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. I also decided to hold workshops since I always enjoy learning new things. With the move to the permanent location on September 26, 2003, we began a monthly workshop series and in the Fall of 2004 began our regular Wednesday evening pottery classes.
I have been working in clay off and on for most of my life. My maternal grandmother first introduced me by way of her slip casting hobby, and I had a class in college. It was not until I took a pottery class in 1990 at a Junior College to reduce the stress of a horrific job situation that I found porcelain. A few years later I heard Rudolf Staffell at Texas Clay II, and I was hooked. The translucency of his porcelain mesmerized me.
I had been able to finally quit that job and was on the track for graduate school. I wound up at the University of Dallas under Dan Hammett and found a home in the Clay Department.
I was very fortunate to work on NCECA when it came to Ft. Worth in 1998 before I went to China with the Alfred group that summer. I also have attended summer workshops at Haystack, Alfred, NYC YMCA and Anderson Ranch. I am looking forward to bringing many of the artists I have met in my clay journey to demonstrate their skills, share their knowledge with others and help local artists find and learn to use the tools on the market.
