BHMC-LR now offers the latest technology for helping the 5,000,000 Americans suffering from congestive heart failure - the Heart Mate. The HeartMate device is implanted alongside the patient's heart to help the natural heart's pumping capability when required, for activities such as climbing the stairs. The HeartMate allows patients once confined to the ICU to return home and live with very few restrictions while awaiting a transplant.
