The Nutrition program was started in September 1975 under the auspices of the Morrilton Human Relations Council. The first meals were served in Morrilton in October of the same year.

The Human Relations Council was incorporated in November 1975 and became the Morrilton Human Relations Council Inc. At this time there were approximately 22 members of MHRC. Six of these people have stayed with the Council and have been actively involved in implementation of the Senior Adult Center programs in Conway and Perry County.

The Morrilton Senior Adult Center was originally located in Sullivan High School. In 1975 when the Center opened there were three large rooms; a dining room, kitchen and an office area. There were bare rock walls. The participants raised a little money at a time to panel the dining room and another room was also added. In 1980 the Senior Adult Center received a grant from the Levi Straus’s Foundation to add an additional multi-purpose room which was called the Levi Room.

At that time they were serving approximately 45 congregate meals and delivering 15 meals to the homebound elderly. Presently this agency is providing over 120 congregate meals daily and 190 home delivered meals daily.

A weekend meal program for the homebound was started in September 1984. Meals were prepared during the week and frozen. On Friday these meals are delivered to be used on Saturday and Sunday. This program has also been implemented at the other two Centers.

The Morrilton Center is the central kitchen location for meals at the Morrilton Center and the Menifee Senior Center.

In 1997, State and local dollars were used to build a 5700 sq foot facility to house the Morrilton Senior Center and the MHRC Adminstrative offices in Morrilton. Land was donated by Southern Christian Home. Updated Commercial Kitchen and dining rooms, provide a wonderful space for Seniors to enjoy their retirement. There are multiple opportunities to volunteer, take classes, etc each day at the Senior Center. In 1998 the name was changed to TC Vaughan Senior Center to honor longtime MHRC Board President Dr. T.C. Vaughan.
