Bullhead City is located in Mohave County in northwestern Arizona on the Colorado River across from Laughlin, Nevada. The corporate boundaries of Bullhead City comprise 42.9 square miles. Bullhead City's neighbor to the south is Mohave Valley. Needles, California, is also part of the Bullhead City region as it lies just 20 minutes south of the city. Heading east up the Black Mountains, Golden Valley rests 15 minutes from Bullhead City and just another 10 minutes you will reach Kingman. The Fort Mojave Indian Nation is south of Bullhead City between Mohave Valley and Needles.
Bullhead City is rich in history, yet moving forward with high hopes of prosperous years to come. The community has become the economic hub and retail shopping center for Western Mohave County and Southeastern Clark County, Nevada.
Bullhead City was named for Bull's Head Rock, an old landmark located along the Colorado River. In the years of steamboat travel up the river, it was used as a navigation point. As the waters rose behind Davis Dam, creating Lake Mohave, Bull's Head Rock was gradually covered, with only a small, undistinguishable part of it remaining uncovered.
