The
Alzheimer’s Association® is the only national health and social
service organization dedicated to research, and to providing support and
assistance to people with Alzheimer’s disease, their families and caregivers.
Founded in 1980, the association works through a network of more than 80
chapters across the country.
A
five-session workshop series, designed to develop the skills needed to care for
someone with dementia or memory loss, will begin on Thursday afternoons in Casa
Grande in early February and Tuesday afternoons in Florence in late February. An additional workshop series is being planned
for Globe in mid March. There is no
charge. Seating is limited, and a pre-registration
process is required.
Workshop
attendees will learn about dementia and its impact, how to manage frustration
and stress associated with caring for a loved one with dementia or memory loss,
how to communicate with their loved ones, and how to take better care of their
own health. To participate, persons need
to provide an average of four hours, or more, of care or supervision per day
for a family member with dementia or memory loss, and find caregiving
increasingly demanding of their time and energy.
Respite
and transportation assistance may be available to help caregivers attend the
workshops. The program is a partnership of the Alzheimer’s Association Desert
Southwest Chapter, Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens, Arizona State
University, and the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
There
is no charge for the CarePRO program. However,
there is a pre-registration process and seating is limited. To learn more about this opportunity, please
call Mindy at the Alzheimer’s Association at 602-528-0545 Ext. 210.
Because
of the nature of this workshop, and the process required for pre-registering,
we do not publicize where the sessions will be held. That information will be
given to persons when they register.
The
Alzheimer’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter provides programs and services
to tens of thousands of families including Helpline – a 24/7 assistance line,
MedicAlert®+Safe Return®, Family Care Consultation,
