While in this town of approximately 200 people, I met Sharron, the Shady Lady and John and Crystal who manage Yesterday's, the local restaurant. Drove to the murals, took some shots, then headed back to Vegas. Seems Roy used auto paint to keep the murals he painted on some of the boulders in the Cerbat Mountains colorful. Made him famous, but I think if it was in NY he would have been arrested. You tell me.

In order to get there I had to drive throught the town and while I was contending with the traffic (there was none) I met up with Sharron Gittings, otherwise known as The Shady Lady. Sharron sells these amazing sculptures made with found objects from the desert and natural objects from the area and has carved a niche for herself as one of Chloride's colorful residents. Sharron was kind enough to give me a private tour and interview. Her one of a kind sculptures have placed become a fixed position within the southern Arizona arts community.

Aside from getting to snapshot the Prescott Mural in their mountains, I had the priviledge of meeting John and Crystal at Yesterday's, a must stop off on your way to either gamble or return west. Nestled in the main area of the town, they have taken what could have been a luncheonette and turned it into a really cool place to dine. I was interviewing one of the local artists, who goes under the nom de plume Shady Lady and when I told her I planned on having lunch there she told me what she had them create for her, so I ordered it. Essentially, it was a baked potato with home-made chili, smothered in cheddar and raw onions. To be safe, I ordered the sliced turkey on sour dough with swiss. Turns out it wasn't necessary, the Chili ala Sharon Shady was delicious and I wound up ordering extra sour cream just so I could slide those skins down my craw. The turkey/Swiss/tomato - grilled with sourdough white was one of the biggest surprises of my trip. As was the chocolate layer cake, which they have flown into Chloride from some secret bakery in the Hinterlands of Pennsylvania. Makes your blood sugar soar but worth every bite.
