Verde Valley Habitat for Humanity
Verde Valley Habitat for Humanity is a local Independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. HFHI was founded in 1976 and is a Interdenominational Christian Organization who's mission is to build houses in partnership with God's people in need. Our local affiliate has served families in the Verde Valley since 1995.
Methodology and Key Program Elements:
* Partnership is our basis, we are about people to people partnership. Volunteers from the community are co-workers, not case workers. Partnership within the community enables the process by providing resources as capital, not charity.
* We are "Self-Help" housing crusaders. Families build their own houses by working side by side with volunteers from the community. "Sweat Equity" is a requirement and the average homeowner puts in over 500 hours to qualify.
* Homeownership is a means to build hope, a sense of dignity, and self worth. All of which contribute to breaking the poverty cycle of working families.
* Habitat provides interest free 20 year mortgages for the cost of construction and land only to partnering families. All future mortgage payments are then recycled back into our future home construction projects.
* Habitat places Resale restrictions on their properties and homes must be owner occupied to preclude "windfall profits" prior to the completion of set mortgage schedules.
* Habitat targets working families with income between 40-80% of the median income for Yavapai County.
