Artistic And Environmentally Friendly Entrance Monument Welcomes Visitors To Sahuaro Ranch Park

category:Arts and Entertainment posted:February 1st, 2012
GLENDALE, AZ - Sahuaro Ranch Park has received a new entry monument that is both artistic and environmentally friendly.

The public art project includes the main entrance monument at 59th Avenue and Mountain View Road and two smaller monuments at the park’s two west entrances on 63rd Avenue.  Solar lighting illuminates the main entrance monument, and, directly behind it, climbing roses have been planted along the park’s fence line.  The monuments are the design and work of artist Laurie Lundquist, a nationally-recognized public artist, based in Tempe.

The monuments are a natural rust finish on solid steel plates with water-jet cutout designs and steel powder-coated lettering.

The project was commissioned by Glendale’s Public Art Program with funding approved by the Arts Advisory Commission in 2010.  An open call to Arizona artists was held to determine the artist.  Lundquist’s proposal was selected by a committee of city staff and Arts Advisory Commissioners.
