GLENDALE, AZ---Artists are invited to participate in the 2012 Plein Air Painting Event that will be held during the Glendale Chocolate Affaire on Saturday, Feb. 4 in downtown Glendale.
Plein Air (open air) paintings occur outdoors and typically real life scenes, as opposed to being painted from photographs in a studio. Some of the guidelines include that both painter and subject must be outdoors, photographs may not used and the painting mediums should be oil, watercolor, acrylic or pastels.
Artists must be at least 18 years old and must bring their own materials and easels. In addition, participants must register prior to painting to receive the event stamp on the back of their canvas, panel or paper. Registration is from 8 to 10:30 a.m. the day of theevent at the Promenade on Palmaire, 5835 W. Palmaire Ave.
Finished paintings must be delivered to the judging site by 3:30 p.m. to be considered for an award. Award categories are purchase awards and will be accessioned into the city’s permanent artcollection. The awards are:
- Arizona Centennial (theme of historical significance within Glendale) - $1,000
- Best of Show – $1,000
- Second Place – $700
- Third Place – $500
- Honorable Mention – $300
This event is hosted by the City of Glendale Arts Commission in conjunction withSpecial Events and the Annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire, which takes place Feb. 3-5.
