Coyotes Activate Mike Smith Off Injured Reserve

Assign Curtis McElhinney to Portland (AHL)

GLENDALE, AZ
---Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced on January 3, 2012 the Coyotes have activated goaltender Mike Smith off injured reserve.

The 6-foot-4, 218 pound Smith missed six games due to a lower-body injury, which he suffered on December 20 at Florida. In 28 games this season, the Kingston, Ontario native has posted a record of 15-10-3 with two shutouts and a .920 save percentage (SV%). Smith set a new career high for wins in a season (15) on December 20.

The Coyotes also announced that goaltender Curtis McElhinney has been assigned to the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).  McElhinney appeared in two games with the Coyotes, recording his first victory with Phoenix on December 31 at Minnesota.
