The peaceful solitude found while strolling along a nearly abandoned stretch of the winding "Peavine Line" that passes through Kirkland, Arizona reveal "There ain't no trouble when I'm ridin' alone." The mesmorizing harmonica of the Delmore Brother's "I Let the Frieght Train Carry Me On;" the harmonizing style of southern gospel singing I recall from my Southland roots; and the lonesome whistle of a passing frieght train provide the backdrop for my experience and personal interest in historic railroading. This compilation is dedicated to the multitude of men who graded the virgin terrain and laid the miles of tracks between Williams and Phoenix under strenuous circumstances in this spectacular section of Arizona prior to the turn-of-the-century. This rail line - operated by the Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix Railway Company - later became well known by its nickname "The Hassayampa" and for its "Cowboy Conductor" who entertained passengers by pointing out interesting landmarks along the way.
