Walgreens stung by loss of Express Scripts

Walgreen Co. reported Friday that its pharmacy sales have plunged 8 percent so far this year after failing to reach an agreement to serve Express Script customers. Pharmacy same-store sales fell 7.9 percent in January and prescriptions filled at comparable stores decreased 8.6 percent in January., Walgreen said. Express Scripts prescriptions accounted for 12.4 percent of Walgreen prescriptions in January 2011. The retailer also has been hurt by a much-weaker-than-expected flu season. Walgreens
