Queen Creek Kicks Off New Recycling Campaign in Conjunction with America Recycles Day

from:Town Of Queen Creek category:Government and Politics posted:November 11th, 2011
The Town of Queen Creek is launching a new recycling awareness campaign called 'Do More Blue,' designed to increase the community's residential recycling rate. It will roll out in advance of America Recycles Day, Nov. 15. The 'Do More Blue' campaign aims to remind individuals of the many recyclable items they can recycle. More information is available at www.QueenCreek.org/recycling.

"The people of Queen Creek are doing a great job of recycling, but we've noticed that some recyclable items aren't making it to the blue carts," said John Kross, Queen Creek Town Manager. "Our campaign will help educate residents that there is a lot more to recycle than just newspapers and aluminum cans. Many people are surprised when they see the complete list of recyclables on the www.QueenCreek.org/recycling Web page."

America Recycles Day on Nov. 15 is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products. Celebrating its 14th year, it has grown to include millions of Americans pledging to increase their recycling habits at home and work and to buy products made with recycled materials.

Since implementation of the Town's curbside trash and recycling program in 2010, the residential recycling diversion rate has been a stable 20% average for the first year. However, the Town estimates that residents can recycle up to 37% of their waste and anticipates the campaign will help bring the Town closer to that number.

The Town of Queen Creek provides collection and disposal of refuse as well as recycling and waste reduction services to most residents in the community, including once a month free scheduled curbside bulk collection and several recycling drop-off special events throughout the year. More information is available at www.QueenCreek.org or by calling 480-358-3450, option 7.
