Queen Creek's South Ellsworth Project Recognized For Partnering Excellence

from:Town Of Queen Creek category:Government and Politics posted:February 6th, 2012
The public works project that improved Ellsworth Road from Cloud Road to Empire Blvd. was made possible by a successful partnership, which is now being honored with the 2011 Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Award. The Town of Queen Creek and its partners, Maricopa County Department of Transportation, Pinal County Department of Transportation, Stanley Consultants and Pulice Construction, were notified that the award will be presented at the Roads and Streets conference in Tucson in April.

"Critical regional and expensive pieces of infrastructure often require smaller communities like Queen Creek to partner with other government agencies and we appreciate the support of the two counties," said Queen Creek Town Manager John Kross. "This award speaks to the excellent working relationships we enjoy as well as the quality of this much-needed public improvement project."

The project improved Ellsworth Road from approximately 1250 feet south of Empire Boulevard to Cloud Road. Improvements included widening the existing two-lane roadway to six lanes; the installation of curb and gutter; raised center median; bike lanes; intersection improvements at Empire Blvd., Riggs Road and Cloud Road; and drainage improvements including box culverts under Ellsworth Road at Empire Blvd. and Riggs Road. The project also included the installation of conduit for the future deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems traffic management technologies, including fiber connections that will transmit traffic conditions and traffic signal coordination commands instantaneously along the Ellsworth Road corridor.

The award program ranks partnerships and projects based on such factors as: project met schedule and budget; quality job/workmanship; open, effective and timely communication among partners and with the public; and respectful behavior.
