Sonoqui Wash Channelization and Riggs Road Crossing Improvement Projects

from:Town Of Queen Creek category:Government and Politics posted:December 30th, 2011

Riggs Road traffic is currently diverted onto a temporary construction bypass road through the work site. Concrete placement for the new Riggs Road Bridge abutments is now complete and new curb and gutter along Marsh Road (south of Riggs Road) is in place. This month, the contractor will begin forming the center bridge pier, placing concrete for the new box culvert crossing just east of the 203rd Place alignment, and placing "rip-rap" (large rock) on the channel banks to provide erosion protection.

Traffic Restrictions

During construction, traffic will be maintained through the channel north of Riggs Road via a temporary construction bypass road between approximately 201st Street and 203rd Street. Lane restrictions can be anticipated. Access will be maintained at all times for residents, businesses and emergency vehicles. Please allow extra time to travel through the area as there may be traffic delays.

About the Project

Sonoqui Wash improvements include channel excavation and slope stabilization between Chandler Heights Road and Riggs Road, the construction of a multi-use path and the construction of a new channel eastward to Crismon Road along the south side of Riggs Road.

The Riggs Road crossing project includes construction of a new bridge over the Sonoqui Wash with sidewalk, bike lanes and equestrian accommodation under the bridge linking to the Town of Queen Creek's trail system. In addition, this project is constructing a new east/west roadway (Marsh Road) south of Riggs Road between just west of the 202nd Place and 204th Street alignments.

Construction Work Hours: In accordance with seasonal changes, the contractor may begin activities as early as 6 a.m. and work until 7 p.m. Some evening or weekend work may be required. Project completion is slated for September 2012.
