Alchesay High School was founded in 1956 with the first class graduating in the year 1960. The graduating class back then only hand an amount of 10-12 seniors. In the past years, Alchesay has grown from very few students to 700 per year. The first principal of Alchesay High School was Dr. R. Montgomery and the Superintendent at the time was Fred R. Lewis, in which our Falcon football field was dedicated to and named in honor of him.

Alchesay High School has had a very diverse background, with the first school being called the “white house”. This building was considered the first official school building of education, which is currently located on Elm Street in downtown Whiteriver. Soon after, as the school expanded, the "old" Northland Pioneer College building became the high school. This building is currently under going renovation for the new building of Whiteriver Elementary School. In 1980, A.H.S moved to its present foundation. In 1999 the school was expanded with a new administrative office, library, east and west wing halls, computer auditorium, and media arts center. The Activity Center was also built and now is commonly used for community functions and events. While Alchesay has expanded in many ways it has not lost its sight of its original vision, to provide the students of the White Mountain area with quality education. The expansion of the buildings may have quieted, but the expansion of knowledge and excellence in education has yet to cease.
