Bethany Church
Mission
Bethany Church is Missions minded! Throughout our history, Bethany has been committed to reaching the lost through the monthly support of missionaries all over the world. Each year during our Missions Convention in October we set goals based on the Faith Promises made by the generous contributors in our church family. What is a Faith Promise? A Faith Promise is an individuals financial commitment to missions for the coming year, which is based on, giving as the Lord provides. It is a personal goal, which tangibly expresses the desire the Lord has placed in your heart to help missionaries around the world. These faith promises go into our missions general fund and are used to support missionaries that are selected by the Missions Committee.
Individuals in our congregation also support missionaries which they select personally and give to directly. Bethany provides many opportunities to learn about various missionaries and their needs. Throughout the year Bethany sets up service times for missionary visits, displays a bulletin board in our foyer with up to date missionary information and makes a "Great Commission" presentation on a monthly basis. During the "Great Commission" presentation the congregation receives information on a church supported missionary including pictures, praise reports and prayer needs.
In addition, Bethany Church gives support for special one-time projects that meet a missionaries specific need at a specific time. This includes Maps Project opportunities for members of our congregation. MAPS teams are organized to complete specific construction assignments on churches, parsonages and Bible schools. The most recent team did construction on a church in Nikiski, Alaska.
Bethany Church is also happy to offer missionaries housing at a four-plex located on the church premises. The newly renovated "Landrus-Christie" building offers beautiful fully furnished living accommodations in the Los Angeles area at a reasonable monthly charge.
We encourage you to prayerfully seek the Lord's guidance on the role you can play in world missions.
Our Vision
This vision statement is the product of prayer and discussions involving the Pastor, the Ministry staff and the Board of Elders. It has been several months in the making and is presented here only in part.
God has raised up a congregation and leadership at Bethany Church and has given us the privilege of seeing his hand work to face the challenges of a new millennium and to build a strong, New Testament Church in this community which will continue to minister until Jesus returns. Among the challenges we yet face is that of being good stewards of the buildings and facilities we have; developing ministries and a worship style which continue to be meaningful and nurturing to our changing church family.
Our stated vision for Bethany is quite simply this: A charismatic fellowship which builds healthy Christians.
This fellowship should be multi-ethnic, reflecting the make up of the community.
This fellowship should be doctrinally balanced.
This fellowship should be benevolent, serving the needs of the community.
This fellowship should nurture the family structure.
In order to better define Bethany Church and its mission, we are adopting the theme: "Bethany Church, a fountain of grace". This theme is a take-off from a scriptural passage found in Joel 3:18 (NIV) 'In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water. A fountain will flow out of the Lord's house and will water the valley of acacias. A "fountain of grace" accurately describes a New Testament church that is bringing salvation and healing to its community. We will work on developing a logo and theme chorus to help communicate our theme.
