ANAHAEIM, CA--Anaheim Fire and Rescue will participate in a Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise offering free flu shots for adults and children three years of age and older. The POD event is part of a continuing series of exercises designed to test the county’s ability to distribute vaccinations to residents during a public health emergency.
Free Flu Shots
Date and Time : Friday, October 21 at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Venue : Sunkist Community Church, 701 S. Sunkist, Anaheim, CA 92806
The site offers both walk-up and drive-through flu shot locations. This year’s vaccine will provide protection against three main viruses that will cause the most illness this season. To receive a flu shot, participants should be feeling well on the day of the flu shot exercise and must complete a brief health screening to ensure they can safely receive a flu vaccination. Recipients cannot be allergic to eggs, have had any prior reactions to a flu shot and cannot have a history of Guillan Barre Syndrome.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with our community partners including the Orange County Health Care Agency and Sunkist Community Church,” said Fire Chief Randy R. Bruegman, Anaheim Fire and Rescue. “Involvement in these exercises improves our capabilities to respond to a large scale event with our volunteers and gives us an opportunity to provide a service to our community during flu season.”
Among the organizations helping to stage the vaccination clinic is the City of Anaheim, Orange County Health Care Agency, Sunkist Community Church, Anaheim Police Department, Anaheim RACES, Anaheim Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Anaheim Public Works, Care Ambulance Service, Medical Reserve Corps, California State University Fullerton School of Nursing, Cypress College School of Nursing, and North Orange County Community College District.
An annual flu shot is the best way to prevent seasonal influenza.
