Mission Statement

In cooperation with the community, the Arcata School District believes that the public interest is best served through ensuring an excellent education for all children, enabling them to participate effectively in our global society. We are organized to provide the highest quality of education and instruction through a combination of efficient, responsible management and forward-looking, exciting teaching.

Philosophy

The Arcata School District, with the support of the community, parents, and its students, seeks to provide a school climate that promotes the highest quality of education in a safe and positive environment. Students need to become life-long learners who are self-motivated to become socially responsible. Students need a solid understanding of basic skills and of their practical applications; beyond that, they must be challenged to maximize their individual potential while recognizing the uniqueness of others. Students need to develop a healthy, positive self-concept that will enable them to achieve success academically, personally, and socially.

About Us :

The Arcata School District is a K-8 school district comprised of two schools, with a total enrollment of approximately 600 students. Arcata Elementary School, serving students in grades K-5, integrates a global studies and arts theme into the daily curriculum. Sunny Brae Middle School serves sixth grade students in self-contained classes and seventh and eight grade students in a modified departmentalized class format as part of the transition to high school.
