A Union Pacific Railroad freight train, coming from the north going south, passes by the Kelso Depot Visitor Center of the Mojave National Preserve in Baker, CA. A great day for me to celebrate National Parks Week (April 21-29) by visiting this pristine NPS unit in the West on April 29, 2012. The restored Kelso Depot, built in 1924, formerly housed a train station, ticket and telegraph office, restaurant, reading room, and a dormitory rooms for railroad employees. It was then often called the Kelso Club House, a UPR term for employee boarding and recreation facilities. Kelso, was a World War II boomtown, is now the point of departure of things to see in four directions of the preserve: southwest - Kelso Dunes, southeast - Hole-in-the Wall and Mitchell Caverns, northwest - Cinder Coves and Lava Beds,and the northeast - Ivanpah and New York mountains. Joshua tree forest along Cima Road is the largest in the world. Watch for desert tortoises while driving in the preserve! However I may suggest Beatles, Pink Floyd or perhaps some Mediski Martin & Wood played on your hi-fi system in the background. Seriously, I will not include music as I do not own the copyright to any applicable music. As a photographer, I respect copyright. I appreciate your understanding. All things said, I hope you enjoy the video, all 28 and half minutes of it. No major incidents, no special effects, just a drive through some of the most beautiful mountain countryside in Panama. Starting at nearly 7000' ASL along the edge of L'Amistad International Parc and all the way down to the sleepy little town of Volcan. This part of the country is truly spectacular, hilly twisty roads unlike anything we usually see in North America.
