An Evening with Manuel Neri

Benicia, CA -- Arts Benicia will host An Evening with Manuel Neri, a special event benefitting Arts Benicia’s Exhibitions, Classes & Programs. The event includes a personal viewing of 3 limited edition books of artwork by Manuel Neri and poetry by Muse, Mary Julia Klimenko, a slideshow of their creative process, and a champagne reception. The evening will conclude with a wine and tapas reception and an engaging Artist lecture by Manuel and Mary Julia.

Artist Manuel Neri, a local Benician, is also an internationally acclaimed artist, and founding member of the Bay Area Figurative movement, of which also includes artists Elmer Bischoff, Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Joan Brown, Nathan Olivera, and Paul Wonner. Neri is well known for his life-size plaster sculptures of abstracted figures that are often sanded or chipped to emphasize surface texture, and brightly painted, as influenced by the ceramic work of Pablo Picasso and Willem de Kooning’s Expressionist paintings.

Manuel Neri’s paintings and sculpture are included in more than 30 public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.
