This is an experimental class that explores the expressive nature of photogtaphy through quick, alternative hand process techniques. Learn the fine art of printing black and white images, and explore one of the earliest expressions of photography by creating camera-less images—also known as photograms, rayograms, or photogenic drawings. Participants will learn how to evaluate negatives, adjust chemicals to obtain different results, tone and spot prints. Receive individual instruction and gain an understanding of specific printing techniques. Students will be encouraged to experiment. No prior experience is required. Enrollment is limited to 4 students.
Ron M. Saunders is an award-winning photographer who specializes in black and white printing. An Artist-in-Residence at Kala, Saunders has been teaching art and photography in the Bay Area for more than twelve years. His work has been exhibited locally and nationally, and he recently had his first solo show in New York's East Village. His work is in private collections in the U.S., London, Toronto and Norway, and was published in a 2005 Rizzoli book titled "Self-Exposure: The Male Nude Self-Portrait".
