Mexican lawyers Hernández and Negrete researched Mexico City’s criminal justice system only to discover some astounding facts: 95% of verdicts are convictions; 92% of convictions are not based on physical evidence; and 93% of inmates are never shown an arrest warrant. To publicize their findings, they joined with filmmaker Geoffrey Smith and produced Presunto Culpable (Presumed Guilty), a documentary of their efforts to exonerate a man sentenced to 20 years for homicide with no physical evidence.
