Guide Dogs of America (GDA), an International Guiding Eyes program, is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing guide dogs to qualified visually impaired individuals eighteen years or older.  All services are provided at no charge to the recipient; however, the cost to produce a qualified guide dog companion, training of the guide dog team, and the follow-up services necessary to insure each team continues to remain safe and effective throughout the team’s working life is $42,000

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is a national nonprofit driving sight-saving research that will lead to preventions, treatments and cures for retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome, and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases that affect more than 10 million Americans. In its 40-year history, the Foundation has raised more than $425 million as the leading non-governmental funder of retinal research. Most recently, a breakthrough Foundation-funded study using gene therapy restored significant vision in children and young adults who were previously blind, paving the way for using this method to treat a variety of retinal degenerative diseases, and proving a cure is in sight. Through its Los Angeles Chapter, the Foundation provides affected individuals and their families with local support and resources, disease information and research updates, and opportunities to network with others and get involved in the fight against blindness. The fun, family-friendly 5th Annual Los Angeles 5K VisionWalk on Oct. 23 at UCLA - Dickson Court South aims to raise $100,000 for cutting-edge research. People can form teams to fundraise, walk independently, or join in on walk day for a lively morning of children’s activities, music, refreshments.
