About Brentwood
Settled in 1874, the City of Brentwood was incorporated in 1948 as a General Law City. The City Government consists of an elected two-year term Mayor and four City Council members who serve four-year overlapping terms with municipal elections held every two years. The Council member receiving the most votes during the election earns the honor of serving as the City's Vice-Mayor.
The City operates its own Police Department, and provides direct water, sewer, and garbage service to the residents of the community. The City of Brentwood receives fire protection services from the East Diablo Fire Protection District, also the City of Brentwood operates its own Park and Recreation Department.
The City's incorporated boundary currently totals 5,668 acres (1996) within a sphere of influence totaling in excess of 15,000 acres. An additional 3,000 acres are within the Brentwood Planning Area adjacent to the sphere of influence.
