Three Top-Level Administrators Welcomed to Management Team
Chula Vista - The Southwestern Community College District welcomes three top-level administrators to its management team: Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs; Dean of Instructional Support Services, and Dean of Research, Evaluation and Planning. In addition, administrative appointments and acting administrative appointments have also been made.
The District named Nicholas Alioto its new Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs. The appointment of the new vice president became effective July 1, 2009, following an extensive national search and selection process.
Alioto has more than fifteen years of experience in the field of Business Service. He has previously worked for the following school districts in Wisconsin: Tigerton School District, Kenosha Unified School District and Eau Claire Area School District. Additionally, Alioto served as President of the Public Business Consulting Group. Alioto’s educational experience includes a Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and he is a Certified Public Accountant.
“I am looking forward to meeting and working with the students, faculty, staff, and community,” said Alioto. “I want to help assure that Southwestern College continues to provide high quality services to its community.”
As the District’s new Dean of Instructional Support Services, Dr. Mink Stravenga began his assignment July 13,2009. Under the administrative direction and leadership of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean plans, organizes, and directs the functions, programs, and activities of District’s Office of Instructional Support Services including tenure review, curriculum, enrollment management, accreditation and additional related areas.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work at the Southwestern Community College District with its faculty, staff and students,” said Stavenga. “My intention is to help students achieve their academic goals in the shortest possible amount of time.”
Dr. Stavenga holds a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration and has more than two decades of college working experience. His administrative experience includes serving as Dean of School of Business at the Gemological Institute of America, System- wide Dean of College of Business at Alliant International University, as well as Professor and Dean of College of Business Administration at the United States International University.
The District’s new Dean of Research, Evaluation and Planning is Dr. Cidhinnia Torres Campos. Dr. Torres Campos has several years of experience working in community colleges and at universities. Her research experience includes serving as the Director of Research and Planning for Crafton Hills College and as the Project Director for California State University, Los Angeles. Torres Campos’ educational experience includes a Doctorate Degree and Master’s Degree from Michigan State University.
“This is an exciting time to be joining Southwestern College,” said Torres Campos. “I look forward to providing critical information and additional opportunities for the campus to ensure ongoing quality improvement.”
The duties of the Dean of Research, Evaluation and Planning include operations research, review, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of a variety of data and information to assess institutional effectiveness. Additionally, Dr. Torres Campos brings with her experience and knowledge in grants and will oversee the college’s development of grants.
In addition to these administrative appointments, the District proudly announces the individuals who have new assignments.
Dean of Higher Education Center at Otay Mesa & San Ysidro
Irma Alvarez began her new assignment as Dean of the Higher Education Centers at Otay Mesa & San Ysidro on July 1, 2009. Alvarez assumes responsibility for the overall planning, implementation, coordination of the Centers operational, instructional, and student support programs and activities.
Dean of School of Career/Technical Education & Learning Assistance
Trish Axsom began her new assignment as Dean of School of Career/Technical Education & Learning Assistance.
Director of Computer Systems Services
Steve Bossi recently began his new assignment as Director of Computer Systems Services. His duties includes developing and implementing short and long term data computing plans and developing technical aspects of an integrated plan for computer hardware and software functions of the College.
Acting Administrative Appointments
Additional appointments made by the Southwestern Community College District include Christine M. Perri, RDH, MA as the Acting Dean of the Higher Educational Center at National City and Victor M. Castillo as the Acting Dean, Continuing Education, Economic & Workforce Development.
