In honor of Veterans Day, The Costa Mesa Historical Society presents its annual salute to our veterans with speaker LtCol. (Ret.) “Ted” Tanner, USAF on Sunday, November 15. On active duty from 1942 to 1947, Mr. Tanner will tell of his experiences flying the P40 fighter, made famous by the Flying Tigers, and the twin-engine A20 “Havoc” night fighter during WWII over the Pacific with the US Army Air Corps. He continued his career with the reserves in what became the US Air Force from 1947 to 1972 through the Korean and VietnamWars. Ted is a member of the Freedom Committee of Orange County whose members speak to high school students and civic groups to bring “living history” into the classroom and instill a sense of patriotism in future generations.
