Elk Grove Library

About Us:
The Elk Grove Community Library was established in October 1908 as the first county Free Library in the state of California. It has changed its location many times, but has been at the current location since 1985.

On March 7, 2000 citizens voted to make the unincorporated area of Elk Grove a city. Currently the City of Elk Grove is about 51 sq. miles and has approximately 113,000 residents. The Elk Grove Community Library serves not only Elk Grove but also neighboring communities such as Vineyard, Wilton, Sloughhouse and Rancho Murieta.

The library is in the heart of downtown Elk Grove. It is surrounded by several elementary schools and Elk Grove High School, all within walking distance. It is about 40 minutes southerly from downtown Sacramento, east of Highway 99 and south of Highway 50. The nearest public library is Franklin joint use Community/School Library, about 10 minutes west, off of Elk Grove Blvd.

-The Library offers weekly back-to-back preschool story times and regular after-school programs.
-Adult and family programs are given on Saturday mornings and evenings.
-There is two adult and one teen book discussion groups.
-Computer classes are given to the public on a regular basis.
