The Elk Grove Unified School District is the 8th largest school district in California and one of the fastest growing school districts in the nation. Located in southern Sacramento County, the district covers 320 square miles, which is one-third of the county. For the 2006-07 school year, the district will serve more than 60,000 students and expects to reach 80,000 students by 2010. More than 60 percent of the district's students are on a four-track year-round schedule and attend school for three months and are off for a month. The district serves a diverse student population and students speak more than 80 languages.
