Merced County Courthouse Museum’s newest exhibit, “Merced on the Move: Transportation History of Merced County,” will open on Thursday, April 9 at 5:00 pm. From historic stage routes, ferry crossings, railroad lines to modern highway systems, the exhibit explores the role of transportation in Merced County history and examines the impact of transportation on the development of the local economy. As the needs of Merced County residents evolved, the rise and demise of the towns became inevitable since their survival crossed paths with new modes of transportation. “Merced on the Move” will take you on a visit to some of the river ghost towns and railroad ghost towns. The exhibit also tells the story of transportation giants who were instrumental to the change of our local transportation landscape. One of them is Miles and Sons Trucking Service. Its former employee, Jay Anderson, will talk about the history of the company at the opening reception at 6:00 pm. After his presentation, a movie will be shown: “Sunrise to Sunset on the Yosemite Valley Railroad.” The exhibit will run through August 2
